HTML Lesson 5 Well how about practice 4. Is it getting more interesting as we go along? Each time we do a practice it will get easier. Before we go any further I must explain something very important to you. So grit your teeth and hold on tight. This will be your most confusing lesson so put your thinking cap on. Got it on? It's not straight! We know that when we open a tag we must close it. Naturally we wont close it untill we are done using it. What we have to learn and understand is in what order do we close them. Just try to remember this. All tags are closed in the reverse order that they are opened. Or, if you open it first, close it last. O sure that's easy for me to say. Lets look at the code you did in practice 4. <html><head><title>give it a name</title></head><body bgcolor="pink"text="black"><font size="6"color="white"><b>My First Web Page</font><p><font size="4">This is my first time at writing HTML<br />and it is not so bad.</p><p><font color="red">This is ok to practice<br /> so I can see what I can create on my own.</font></p></font></b></body></html> This will be easier than you think. You can see that the HTML tag is the first tag that we open, and it is the very last tag that we close. That's easy. The rest of our writing is in two (2) seperate sections. The HEAD section and the BODY section. So lets take one section at a time. For these lessons the head section is very easy it only has 2 tags. Later you will learn of other tags that would go in the head section if you want to use them. But for now only 2. <head><title>give it a name</title></head> Notice again which tag was opened first then closed last? Yes the head tag. They were closed in reverse order that they were opened. Like I said they were easy because you just opened 2 then closed them both right away. But what if you wanted to open a tag and leave it open till the end of you writing and still open and close other tags inbetween? Well you already did that but you didn't realize it. Lets look at the body section. I gave a number to each tag as we opened them so we can see when they will be closed. <1body bgcolor="pink"text="black"><2font size="6"color="white"><3b>My First Web Page</2font><4p><5font size="4">This is my first time at writing HTML<br />and it is not so bad.</4p><6p><7font color="red">This is ok to practice<br /> so I can see what I can create on my own.</7font></6p></5font></3b></1body> ( 1. ) The body tag was opened first so it's closed last. WOW! I'm glad that's over. And I'm glad your still here. You can take your thinking cap off now. I smell the smoke in here. I hope you have a fair understanding, if not don't worry. As you do more lessons and practices you will catch on. It's not hard it's just confusing at first. But the more you write the more you will understand. And yes this is the worst lesson. They don't get any harder than this one. The rest of the lessons are just more tags and more fun. Yes they are easy tags. After this I better give you something easy before you tear up my pages. But before we go to the next lesson, how about those shades of colors I promised. Want to see them and learn how to use them? Shades of colors are made from 3 basic colors, Red Green and Blue. So they are called RGB Colors. And each color is given numbers and/or letters to represent how many drops of red or green or blue it took to make that color. Much like you having a shade of paint made at the store and they add drops of other colors to make it. I know more numbers and letters to learn. But it's worth it. Go and see all the colors then in the next lesson I will show you how to use them. Just place your mouse on the name or the number of each color and you will see what it looks like. MSN TV just scroll down with your arrow keys. After you check out the colors you can go to the next lesson ( lesson 6 ) from the color chart, or return here to lesson 5, it's your choice. Or you can go to, Lesson 4------Practice 4 Lesson 3------Practice 3 Lesson 2------Practice 2 Lesson 1------Practice 1 Introduction Page Home Page |
